Expanding Your Capacity //
The past couple of years have been filled with so many life lessons for me as I have ventured into new depths well out of my comfort zone. I’ve had to learn new business skills, learn to manage my time effectively, learn how to interact better with people…the list goes on.
In life we never 'arrive' at a point where everything is easy - there are always new challenges, fresh vision, new dreams, new relationships… we are constantly learning, growing and evolving in our capacity to juggle multiple things in our lives and be successful.
I’ve had to focus on building my capacity to go further and achieve more in a short period of time. Along with that, I’ve had to juggle commitments with sport, studying, my girlfriend, having time for friends, family, hobbies… and I haven’t even begun to factor in my business yet.
I was talking with someone the other day about capacity and they gave me a great illustration about how to manage my own growth as well as what to expect from people in my team. Everyone has different sized ‘cups’ with different capacities. If someone has a smaller cup than you, you can’t expect them to hold the same amount of ‘water’ or have the same capacity as you.
Thats why it is important to constantly grow and overcome challenges and to empower and encourage those around you to do the same. As you grow, your capacity grows. You can take on more. You understand the lessons you’ve learnt along the way and you see the ‘big picture’. Your influence grows and you learn that life is meant to be lived without a small capacity.
You deserve to live a life without limits. What type of cup do you have ready to hold your capacity? If it’s a small cup, it is time to get rid of that! The following points will help increase your capacity, just as it has for me:
- Become comfortable with being uncomfortable: If you want to grow, you have to leave your comfort zone. Learn to love immersing yourself in uncomfortable environments. Recognise feeling uncomfortable as a sign that you’re growing and increasing your capacity.
- Learn from your mistakes: The best businesspeople don't know everything. They’re the ones who are brave enough to admit mistakes - and learn from them along the way.
- Clear your mind: When I have lots going on in my life, I find that taking the time to clear the noise around me and inside me goes along way for readying me for the adventure to come.
- Share the journey: Feeling lonely through your challenges isn’t fun. Keep in touch with your closest friends or find a great mentor so they can support you through your struggles and celebrate your success.
I hope this challenges you to throw out your cup, take the plunge and dive into the deep end. Always be proud and pleased with each progressive step you take. Remember, it's a good thing to feel uncomfortable. It means you're moving forward and increasing your capacity to live a life that you deserve!
Go for it!
